This World We Live In by Susan Beth Pfeffer shared by ataks
I just read This World We Live In. It is in the Life as We Knew it series. In this book, Miranda and her two brothers and mom are struggling to survive. Last year, a meteor hit the moon and caused many deaths and natural disasters. Food is scarce, and Miranda and her brothers must scavenge the houses of the people that have died to find items such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc.. Miranda's brothers go fishing for a week, and her older brother returns with a girl named Syl, who he married on the trip. Soon, Miranda's dad, step mom and baby half-brother arrive with three people: Charlie, Alex, and Julie. The six of them move into one of the few standing abandoned houses. Miranda falls in love with Alex almost immediately. Alex wants to leave and leave Julie at a convent, but nobody wants them to go. Miranda and her dad take them to the convent, and find out that it is empty. They return, everyone is happy except for Alex. Alex tells Miranda that he and Julie have passes to a safe town, and that he wants Miranda to go to the safe town with them. Miranda says yes. Charlie and her dad want to go with them, along with Miranda's step mom and the baby. Just when they are about to leave, a tornado hits their home. Everyone rushes to safety. When the twister passes, Miranda discovers that a few lives are lost. This book is really good, and you never want to put it down!
