The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket shared by hujul
I read the book The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. This book was a sad, but cunning book about an evil man who wants to steal some orphans' fortune. The Baudelaires, who are now orphans because their parents died in a fire, were adopted by a "relative" who wanted to take their fortune. Count Olaf, the evil man, planned to "marry" Violet, the oldest Baudelaire orphan, in order to take their fortune. He made a play, which he was using to hide his real plot. Klaus, the second oldest orphan, figured out the scheme by reading their neighbor's, Justice Strauss who is a judge in court, law books. He confronted Count Olaf and told him to stop, but one of his henchmen stole Sunny, the youngest Baudelaire, put her in a bird cage, and dangled her from a window in a high tower. Count Olaf threatened to drop her if Violet did not marry her. According to the law books, a man and woman are legally married if there is a real judge in there (Justice Strauss), the woman and man say "I do", and they sign a paper with their own hand. Klaus told Violet about this, and she knew how to foil it. When the scene of the play came where they were to marry, she said "I do" and signed the paper with her left hand when she was right-handed. He said they were officially married and stopped the play. Justice Strauss said she was sorrry about it, but it was real. Violet then revealed that she signed it with her left hand, so it wasn't legal. Mr. Po, the man who was supposed to watch the orphans, immediately decided to take the children away from him. He said he would get the fortune, one way or another.
