How I Survived Being a Girl by Wendelin Van Draanen shared by chraq
The book, How I survived being a girl, by Wendelin Van Draanen took place in California, where Carolyn and her two brothers lived. The main character was a twelve - year old girl named Carolyn who lived in a friendly but sneaky neighborhood. Carolyn and her brother’s favorite thing to do was spy on their next door neighbors and throw rocks down their chimney. Carolyn had short red hair and was a tomboy. She was always getting into trouble. An example was when Carolyn and her brother snuck on top of their neighbor’s roof and threw rocks down their chimney. When the neighbors called the police, Carolyn and her brother raced home and pretended to be in the middle of a game. When their dad came home he made them clean up the house and make dinner because he had important news to tell them. The important news was they were going to have a baby sister in a few months. Carolyn cried but only because she was happy. When Carolyn met her new teacher she called her dragon lady and told every body she wore a wig. When the principle found out, he called her to his office and told her not call her teacher that and she is very nice once you give her a chance. The next week Carolyn had a choir performance that she had to go to, so her mom made her wear a dress and curl her hair. Things were a little weird between her and her best friend, Charlie, because he had a girlfriend that she didn’t really care for. After the performance was over, Charlie and Carolyn talked everything over and were okay again. I recommend this book to girls who have a curious mind and are opened to different options in life.
