Overnight by Adele Griffin shared by shemi

The main character of this book is Gray, a sixth grade girl. However, each chapter a different girl from the Lucky Seven (A group Gray and her “friends” made) is expressed with her thoughts. Gray was a quiet girl that thought and worried a lot. On Caitlin’s (a friend of Gray) birthday party, everything was going nicely. She didn’t want to play Caitlin’s game so she went to get some juice. She spotted an interesting woman that was staring at her. Gray thought that she might have been one of Caitlin’s neighbors so she invited her in. When the woman said she was, Gray was relived and thought she was harmless. When Gray said that she wanted to go home to pick up her sleeping bag, the woman agreed and said that they should go instantly. Then Gray thought that she was from Helping Hands. Helping Hands is a program to help people with cancer. Gray’s mother had cancer and they often helped Gray do errands that her mother couldn’t do. Gray didn’t think that she was a Helping Hands type of person, but she agreed anyway. However, the woman didn’t bring Gray to Gray’s house. The woman took her to her house. Gray was scared and asked why she was there and the woman just said that she needed to take a nap for a couple of hours. Gray then asked to use a phone, but the woman just said that they didn’t have one. Gray stood there while the woman went into a room to nap. Later, she saw a phone underneath the couch, but she didn’t know how to make it work. She realizes that she was kidnapped, but surprisingly didn’t panic. The other members stared to wonder after a hour has pasted. Catlin told her mother and they started to look inside the house and outside to. After three hours, they called the police. Even the police didn’t know where she went. Gray thought a lot about the Lucky Seven. She thought the group was falling apart. The only reason that she was still in the group was because of pity and because their mothers were friends. She then thought that Martha (the leader of the group) has been nothing but mean to her. She heard her talk behind her back too. Gray heard the woman’s boyfriend say that the house they were living in was actually someone else’s house. They quickly dropped Gray off on the road and left. Soon, a police car spotted her and brang her back to her home. Gray thought that she was going to quit the Lucky Seven and be with friends that were actually nice.

Opinion

In my opinion, the book is a bit confusing at times. I wondered why Gray did what she did. If I were Gray, I would have made different moves at different times. I think it is a bit confusing, but is still a decent book.
