Extra Credit by Andrew Clements shared by soand
The book, Extra Credit, by Andrew Clements tells about a girl named Abby who struggles in class, because of her poor grades. To get her grades up before school ends, she'll have to finish all her homework ontime, get at least B's on every test and assignment, and do a special assignment, which would require her to exchange letters with a person from a different country and culture. After receiving her first letter from Afghanistan, Sadeed was chosen to be Abby's penpal. However, boys in Afghanistan weren't supposed to correspond with girls, so Sadeed's sister, Amira dictates and signs the letters. After a while, Sadeed decides to tell Abby the truth, Amira wasn't the one writing the letter, it was Sadeed himself doing the work for his sister. Unfortunately, Sadeed was not allowed to send letters to Abby, because of a crime in his village. In the end of the school year, she did a presentation of Afghanistan. She learns a lot about its unique life. Extra Credit is a great book for kids ages 8 to 12.
