Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeeffer shared by kitae

"Life As We Knew It" is a very good book because it shows what could have happened or could happen in the future. It's about a girl named Miranda, her two brothers Jonny and Matt, and her divorced mom living together when a meteor strikes the moon and knocks it closer to Earth.
Due to the increased gravitational pull, there are gigantic tsunamis and natural disasters. School is canceled, gas prices double, and stores are looted. Islands are submerged, the world is covered in ash, and there is a gigantic food shortage. Everyone grabs as much as they can before it runs out.
Miranda's family, along with their elderly neighbor, Mrs. Nesbitt, stockpile on goods and prepare for a long, grueling, cold summer.
Mrs. Nesbitt tells Miranda that when she dies, they should take her stuff before anyone else did. Miranda reluctantly agrees. A few days later, Mrs. Nesbitt dies of age.
Months later, the family is hit by a flu and barely survives. Their food supply starts to dwindle. Miranda heads into town one last time. On her last vestiges of strength, she makes it to City Hall, where she receives food from the mayor's shipment.
She makes it back and they rejoice. It had been hard, but they had lived through the experience with minimal losses.
I liked this book because it was very realistic and displays what humans can do when faced with supposedly insurmountable circumstances.
